Shugart SA-400 Minifloppy (1976)
The first 5.25-inch floppy drive, which shrank floppy storage to fit desktop machines.
Shugart introduced the SA-400 Minifloppy at an OEM price of $390 per drive and $45 for ten diskettes. Its 34-pin interface became the de facto standard that later PC floppy drives followed. It brought removable storage to hobbyist and business micros alike.
