MITS Altair 8800 (1974)
Cover story of the January 1975 Popular Electronics (in subscribers' hands late December 1974). Launch prices were $397 as a kit and $498 assembled; MITS later raised them to $439 and $621.
Designed by Ed Roberts and sold as a kit, it sparked the microcomputer hobby and was the target machine for Microsoft's first product, Altair BASIC.
