Novell NE2000 (1988)
The 16-bit version of Novell's Ethernet card, whose register interface became the industry-wide clone standard.
'NE2000 compatible' became the lowest-common-denominator driver for dozens of cheap clone cards, and was emulated by PC emulators and virtual machines for decades.
