Intel 80287 Math Coprocessor (1982)
The FPU companion to the 286, found in AT-class PCs.
Released in 1982 for the 80286, the 80287 ran at 6 to 12 MHz. It sped up spreadsheets, CAD and compilers that used floating point; without one, software emulated the math slowly. The 10 MHz part was listed at $250 in quantities of 100.
