Apple iPod (3rd generation) (2003)
A full redesign with an all-touch interface, a slimmer case and the 30-pin Dock Connector.
The 3rd generation iPod moved the four buttons above the touch wheel and introduced the 30-pin Dock Connector that would last until 2012. It was thinner than earlier models and offered USB sync in addition to FireWire. A September 2003 revision added a 40 GB model. The dock connector created a large accessory market, and the touch-button layout is why this model is nicknamed the 'dock connector' iPod by collectors.
