Sony Digital Mavica MVC-FD5 (1997)
Entry-level Digital Mavica with fixed focal length, saving JPEGs to a standard floppy.
The FD5 and FD7 launched the Digital Mavica era in late 1997 or early 1998. Photos were saved as JPEG files on an ordinary 3.5-inch floppy, so any PC with a floppy drive could read them with no cable or driver. This is why it was popular in North America, schools and offices. Floppies held only a handful of images, which is why collectors still recall carrying stacks of disks.
