S3 ViRGE (1996)
S3's first 3D chip, widely sold but nicknamed the 3D decelerator.
With extra effects on, 3D slowed to software-render speeds. Games like Tomb Raider, Descent II and MechWarrior 2 had S3D paths, and its 2D was excellent.
