MUD1 (1978)
Roy Trubshaw and Richard Bartle's multiplayer text adventure at Essex University, the ancestor of every MUD that followed.
Roy Trubshaw began it at Essex University in 1978 in assembly language and handed it to Richard Bartle in 1980. When Essex joined ARPANET it became the first multiplayer online role-playing game on the Internet. The name stands for Multi-User Dungeon.
