PS1 disc read errors: lens clean, drive check and laser pot
A dirty lens or worn mechanism is the easy fix. If that does not work, mark and tune the laser pot in tiny steps and revert if you hear rubbing.

Optical · Careful · about 60 minutes. Try it, but check first. This will not fix every machine, so read the sources first.
You are in the right place if: The PS1 shows a disc-read error, spins up then stops or fails to recognise discs.
Before you start
- Never look into the laser.
- Never turn the pot without marking where it started.
Board revisions and models
PSone and original PS1 differ. ConsoleMods names PSone capacitor C705 for disc detection issues.
