Repair a GameCube controller: dead buttons, drift and worn caps
Carbon contacts and stick modules wear. Cleaning the contacts and replacing the stick fixes most worn controllers.

- Do not use abrasives on carbon pads.
- Take care desoldering the stick to avoid lifting traces.

Step by step
- Test the controller Check which buttons or axes fail.
- Open it up Remove the screws and carefully lift the shell.
- Photograph and sort parts Keep parts organised.
- Clean everything Wash the shell parts and wipe the board with alcohol.
- Restore the carbon contacts Clean the carbon contacts and pads with contact cleaner.
- Replace the stick if needed Desolder the analogue stick and fit a new one.
- Replace degraded stick covers Swap perished stick covers for fresh ones.
- Reassemble and test Check all buttons, triggers and the stick's full range.
