Recap guide
Recap the TRS-80 Color Computer
A published list covers the 24 electrolytics on the CoCo 1 'F' board, including one huge 10000 uF part.
Open the interactive checklist Tick off each capacitor as you replace it. It saves in your browser.
Worth a recap. Reports say it is a common and useful fix on this machine.
Which board do I have?
Boards changed during production. These notes come from the linked sources, and many are only partly documented, so check the board in front of you.
- CoCo 1 F board (Medium confidence). How to tell: Called out as an F board; CoCoPedia lists D, E, ET and F boards for the CoCo 1. Capacitors: A PDF by David Kroeker maps capacitors from C9 to C84, 1uF to 10000uF, 16V to 50V. Capacitor list differs from other revisions: not known. Source
- CoCo 1 D and E boards (Medium confidence). How to tell: D boards are 26-3001, 26-3002 and 26-3003; E boards are 26-3002A and 26-3003A. Capacitors: No cap list for these found. Capacitor list differs from other revisions: not known. Source
- CoCo 2 USA made (board 8709416) (Medium confidence). How to tell: 26-3026, 3026A, 3026B and 3027 with upright RF modulator and large TO-3 pass transistor. Capacitors: No cap list found. Capacitor list differs from other revisions: not known. Source
- CoCo 2 Korean made (boards 20261043, 20261044, 20261058) (Medium confidence). How to tell: 26-3134 and 3136 use 20261043, the A versions 20261044, B versions 20261058; flat modulator, TO-220 pass transistor, shielded transformer. Capacitors: No cap list found. Capacitor list differs from other revisions: not known. Source
Where to start
Clues from write-ups and forum threads, not a diagnosis. Low confidence means one thread or one repair; high means several write-ups agree.
- CoCo 1 F board list (Medium confidence). An annotated board photo and capacitor list covers 24 electrolytics on the CoCo 1 F board only. Source
Tips, tales and maybes
Found in write-ups and forum threads. These are other people's reports, not tested by us. Check part references and values against your own board.
- Tip: Marking on the CoCo 1 F board list (Low confidence). The annotated list notes that for C14 a red line marks the negative side, and that the red circle around the VDG and the center post on the map should be ignored. It covers the F board only. Source

Guides we used
This page and the interactive bench are built from these. They have the photos and the full detail, so please read them and support their authors.

The capacitor list
We have not checked a capacitor list for this machine yet, so none is shown. Follow the guide above for your board, then add the capacitors in the interactive checklist and it builds a shopping list for you.

Steps, tools and safety
The steps, the tools in top, middle and budget picks, and the safety list are the same for every machine, so they live on one page: How to recap, step by step.
Values are shown as published in the guides above, and boards changed during production. Check the board in front of you. A recap involves hot tools and, on some machines, dangerous voltages. You do it at your own risk.
