Sony Mavica prototype (1981)
The 1981 prototype of Sony's Magnetic Video Camera, an analog still camera recording to a 2-inch floppy disk.
Sony showed the Mavica as an SLR-style electronic still camera with three interchangeable lenses. It recorded NTSC analog video frames as still images onto a small magnetic disk (the Mavipak), about 50 frames per disk. The images were viewed on a TV rather than loaded to a PC. It never went on sale, but it set off the film-versus-electronic imaging debate and gave the later digital Mavicas their name.
