Sega Mega-CD (Japan) (1991)
The Japanese launch of Sega's CD drive add-on for the Mega Drive, ten months before the US Sega CD.
Released December 12, 1991 at 49,800 yen. A 12.5 MHz 68000 and ASIC with scaling and rotation hardware extended the Mega Drive. Sonic CD was the best seller at 1.5 million; the system sold 2.24 million total worldwide.
