PlayStation 2 (Japan) (2000)
The Japanese launch of the best-selling console of all time, a week-long sellout that also made it a cheap DVD player.
Sony launched PS2 in Japan on 4 March 2000 with the Emotion Engine CPU and backward compatibility with PlayStation games. Launch software was thin, but DVD playback and the PS1 library carried it. It went on to ship over 155 million units and stayed in production until 2013.
