Mouse Systems Optical Mouse (1982)
One of the first mice sold for the IBM PC, an optical design that needed a special reflective-grid mousepad.
Designed by Steve Kirsch, it drew attention at the Mini/Micro '82 show in Anaheim and won a best new product award. It tracked an LED reflection off the metal pad, so it had no ball to clog, but the pad was easy to lose or damage. PC Paint was bundled with Mouse Systems mice until 1987.
