Famicom Disk System (1986)
A floppy-based add-on for the Japanese Famicom.
Released in Japan on 21 February 1986 at 15,000 yen, it let cheap rewritable 112 KB disk cards replace pricier cartridges. About 194 games appeared, including Zelda and Metroid. Piracy and wear on disks eventually ended the format, but it let players save progress.
