Amstrad GX4000 (1990)
Amstrad's cartridge console built on the CPC Plus computer architecture; the first programmable home console made in the UK. It sold under 15,000 units.
Launched in September 1990 at 99.99 pounds with a roughly 20 million pound marketing push. Its 8-bit Z80 hardware looked dated beside the Mega Drive and SNES, and cartridges cost far more than CPC cassettes. Only 27 games appeared and it was quietly dropped in 1991. Its RGB output was unusual for consoles of the time.
